Bega Valley Shire Council is pleased to announce it has received $150,000 in funding from the NSW Government Public Library Infrastructure Grants through the State Library of NSW.
This is a significant investment that will enable refurbishment of the Bega Library to make the most of the available space in the current building at Zingel Place.
“We are very grateful for this generous support from the State Library of NSW,” Acting Manager Community and Cultural Services, Yvette Parker said.
“With this funding, we’ll be able to upgrade Bega Library in many exciting ways for the community, including a change to mobile shelving.
“All other shire libraries use mobile shelving which has proved invaluable for maximising how we use library spaces, particularly around events and activities.
“In addition, we’ll be able to redesign the Bega Library layout using clever furniture choices, contemporary customer service points and a revitalised youth space.”
“The funding comes at a critical time – there’s a growing number of people who use Bega Library for remote work or study and we want to better accommodate their needs.
“It will help us provide the community with flexible, multi-purpose spaces that suit children, families, business people, seniors and students.
“There’s an increasing demand for safe and inclusive community spaces where people can spend time in the cool or warmth depending on the weather, connect with others, learn something new, participate in an event and, of course, access free resources.
“As the project progresses, we’ll be asking for the community’s preferences as we consider fit-out designs and furniture options. Libraries are community hubs and we want people to let us know what they want in their local library.”
