Bega Valley Shire Council advises flood restoration works will be carried out on Big Jack Mountain Road from Monday 1 September and are expected to take three months to complete, weather permitting.
The works will take place between Burragate and New Buildings, about 2.4km north of the intersection with Wyndham Street, Burragate.
Council thanks the residents who attended the community consultation session on Wednesday 20 August at Rocky Hall Community Hall. Feedback received has helped inform the scheduling and road closure arrangements, with adjustments made to minimise disruption while ensuring safety.
Local contractors will construct a block retaining wall to improve the durability of the road and repair the road surface which was damaged during the recent flood events.
A single lane with portable traffic lights will be open to light vehicles from 6:30am to 9am and 3pm to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Road users should expect delays of up to 15 minutes during these times.
The road will be fully closed outside of these hours, including between 9am and 3pm and overnight from Monday to Saturday and all day on Sundays.
During periods of full closure, the recommended detour is via Burragate Road, Mount Darragh Road and New Buildings Road.
The timber bridge at New Buildings has a 20 tonne load limit, so heavy vehicle access to Rocky Hall will be restricted during construction.
Trucks, buses and vehicles towing caravans or trailers will not be permitted to use the road at any time during construction.
If ground conditions become unstable or unsafe for road users and our contractors, the road may be closed immediately without warning.
Council thanks the community for their patience while these important works are undertaken.
Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
