Bega Valley Shire Council is pleased to announce the restoration of the Cattle Bay foreshore reserve in Eden has been completed.
Council’s Property and Legal Manager, Rickee Marshall said the community now has full and free access to this beautiful public foreshore reserve following the extensive remediation works.
“Under an agreement, the adjoining landowner removed uneven concrete and an existing car park and constructed a new 20-space car park with landscaped areas,” Ms Marshall said.
“It’s a successful ending to a long-term project with extensive negotiations over a number of years.
“In 2009, a strip of foreshore land at Cattle Bay (the old cannery site) was dedicated to Council as part of a subdivision of adjacent privately-owned property.
“In 2019, the adjoining landowner undertook minor rehabilitation efforts, creating a temporary car park and some basic public amenities, however the site remained closed with temporary fencing for public safety.
“Council’s agreement with the landowner to restore the foreshore and establish an easement for access and services paves the way for a long-term solution for the landowner’s proposed marina development, both landside and over the Crown waterway.
“And the local community and visitors now have the chance to enjoy easy access to the park, beach and wharf for recreation, relaxation and social gatherings.”
