ClubGRANTS fund 14 projects across the shire

Bega Valley Shire Council is pleased to announce funding for 14 organisations under the ClubGRANTS program.

ClubGRANTS awards eligible organisations with grants for projects and services that contribute to the welfare and broader social fabric of the local community aimed at improving the living standards of low income and disadvantaged people.

Deputy Mayor Mitch Nadin, who was at the ClubGRANTS presentation, said clubs in NSW are built on the foundation of community; they bring people together.

“Our local clubs also recognise what can be achieved when the community works together to help people in need,” Cr Nadin said.

“Our shire is fortunate to have many groups, associations and volunteers work together to provide help where it’s needed.”

The ClubGRANTS scheme, administered by Council, is a shared NSW Government and club industry program funded by gaming machine tax on registered clubs with gaming machine profits in excess of $1 million.

ClubGRANTS contribute to the provision of frontline services to the local community in priority areas of community welfare and social services like family support, domestic violence services and volunteer emergency services, community development and community health services.

Funding for the projects is provided by six registered clubs across the shire: Merimbula RSL, Club Sapphire Merimbula, Eden Sports and Recreation Club, Club Bega, Bermagui Country Club and Tura Beach Country Club.

Organisations awarded with ClubGRANTS

  • Marine Rescue Bermagui will replace batteries to continue its 24/7 marine radio and rescue coverage: $5,647.
  • Katungul Aboriginal Corporation Regional Health and Community Services will establish a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice in the shire in partnership with the University of Wollongong Bega campus: $23,500.
  • Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service will expand its community-led plan to prevent domestic and family violence in the shire to achieve long-term change: $18,590.
  • Marine Rescue Eden will upgrade ageing computers to improve coordinating rescues and monitoring vessels in its Search and Rescue Coordination and Communications Centre and the Training Centre in Snug Cove, Eden: $3,000.
  • Connections Plus Australia will provide inclusive recreational activities to enable people with disability to enjoy social inclusion: $7,332.
  • Sapphire Life Opportunities will use the funds to establish a soup kitchen from its food trailer to provide free hot meals at its premises in Main Street, Merimbula: $25,000.
  • Pearls Place will host a Christmas lunch at its premises in Pambula for individuals experiencing a range of long-term disadvantages: $1,800.
  • Pambula Surf Life Saving Club will purchase essential equipment for nippers, its Same Wave program for young people with disability and future lifesavers undertaking the Bronze Medallion: $14,725.
  • Burragate Rural Fire Brigade will instal floor covering in its fire shed (which is also a designated Neighbourhood Safer Place) to improve the facility as a community shelter during emergencies: $1,260.
  • The Women’s Resource Centre will provide women in the shire with access to professional driving lessons to increase their independence, employability and community participation: $6,025.
  • Bega Valley Meals on Wheels will establish a mobile seniors café to ensure seniors remain connected, informed and engaged with their communities: $5,000.
  • Directions Health will use the funds to continue to provide harm minimisation education for marginalised youth impacted by substance use: $5,000.
  • St Vincent de Paul Society will use the funds to provide gifts for children and Christmas food hampers for families and individuals experiencing disadvantage: $9,000.
  • Parkinson's NSW will host a Community Education Seminar in the shire for people living with Parkinson’s Disease, and their families and caregivers: $3,746.
