Bega Valley Shire Council is inviting Cobargo residents without a roadside waste collection service to attend an information session about the upcoming Semi-Automated Waste Disposal System (SAWDS) trial.

The session will be held on Thursday 17 July from 4:30pm to 6:00pm at the Cobargo RSL Hall and will include a short presentation followed by a Q&A session with Project Officer, David Traylen.

The SAWDS pilot, to be installed at the Cobargo Waste and Recycling Centre, includes two solar-powered, semi-automated compactor units.

“One unit is for general red-bin waste and the other is for yellow-bin co-mingled recycling,” Mr Traylen said.

The project also involves redevelopment of the site to house the new units and increased customer traffic.

Council has now secured supplier procurement and passed key regulatory milestones, including development application approval, consultation with relevant land and heritage bodies and NSW planning authority sign-off.

“This trial offers a practical solution for residents without waste collection services and we’re keen to hear local views as we move forward,” Mr Traylen said.

“The information session is a chance for rural residents to learn more, ask questions and help shape the future of waste services in the Cobargo area.”

Letters have been delivered to eligible residents informing them of the information session.
