Tiny homes petition to be presented for noting at Council meeting

Bega Valley Shire Council is aware that some of the community may be expecting Councillors to debate and vote on the petition lodged by Josh Heins at the Council meeting tomorrow (Wednesday 20 August). This is not the case.

Bega Valley Shire Council is aware that some of the community may be expecting Councillors to debate and vote on the petition lodged by Josh Heins at the Council meeting tomorrow (Wednesday 20 August). This is not the case.

In line with the Code of Meeting Practice, the report at Item 5.1 in the meeting agenda is being presented to Council for noting only.   

The Code of Meeting Practice (Procedure 6.02.2) is available on the Council website and states as follows: 

4.34 On receipt of a valid petition, a report will be submitted to the next available meeting of Council. The report is to note the nature of the petition and number of signatories.

a. The CEO will indicate in their report if a future report will be presented to Council for consideration in relation to subject matter raised in the petition. (BVSC Supplementary)

b. A Councillor may subsequently lodge a written Notice of Motion requesting a formal report be presented to Council on the subject matter raised in the petition.

c. The Chairperson must not permit discussion or debate on the petition, the report is for noting only.

d. Councillors will be made aware of additional signatures to already reported petitions if they are received. (BVSC Supplementary).
