Bega Valley Shire Council will soon commence a full replace and upgrade program of its nine water fill stations located across the shire.

The $750,000 upgrade is funded by Council’s Water and Sewer Services, with Australian company Abberfield Technology providing the locally designed water fill stations.

Council’s Water and Sewer Services Manager, Steve Marshall said the stations are essential infrastructure that allow residents, businesses and emergency services to purchase high-quality drinking water in bulk.

“They are especially important for properties not connected to the town water supply and play a vital role in bushfire preparedness by supporting water carters and the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS),” Mr Marshall said.

The nine water fill station locations are: Bermagui, Quaama, Bega, Bemboka, Candelo, Merimbula, Pambula, Eden and Tathra.

“Each station will be upgraded with modern, user-friendly features including onsite EFTPOS facilities, making them more accessible for casual, one-off and small-scale users,” Mr Marshall said.

“This upgrade provides a reliable and convenient water supply for local customers while also supporting tourism by serving the motorhome and caravan touring community.”

Upgrades will be rolled out progressively from May 2025 through to September 2026.

Existing water fill station customers will be contacted directly with instructions on how to transition to the new system and return their iButton key sets.

Regular users and eligible businesses can apply for account cards, while NSW RFS brigades will continue to access water free of charge.

This investment will improve accessibility, reduce administrative barriers and enhance water security across the Bega Valley.

The Bermagui water fill station will be installed at a new location on Sherwood Road.
