A combined winter activity program for children and adults has been launched by Bega Valley Shire Council in the lead-up to the July school holiday break.

There are two hard copy programs available – one for kids and another for adults – which are a combination of activities and events at the shire’s libraries, SECCA (South East Centre for Contemporary Art) and Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre (BVCCC).

Council’s Acting Library Services Coordinator, Linda Albertson said the kids’ program is full of fun, free activities for children between the ages of three and 12 across all four libraries – Eden, Bega, Tura Marrang and Bermagui.

“We’ve got a few Thank a First Responder Storytime sessions, Ozobot robotic programming, Teddy Bear Sleepover, The Great Zamboni magician, arts and crafts, Storytime and Rhymetime sessions and a number of Fungi Festival activities,” Ms Albertson said.

“Our adults program includes the popular Words and Music, a book launch, author talks, Ageing with Vitality events, seed-saving and preserving harvests, and our all-ages program offers lantern making, Blackout Poetry, a fascinating weather talk and our Science Week Fun Day.”

SECCA Gallery Director, Janice Falsone said the kids will love their arts activities which include creating marble paper coastlines, playground sculptures, an 8-page zine and still life artwork.

“Adults can enjoy exhibitions by Bonita Ely and Jess MacNeil, and a two-hour drawing masterclass with artist Merryn Sommerville. The Dobell Drawing Prize #23 exhibition will be open until 28 June.

“We will also have panel discussions, curator tours and artist talks that offer critical thinking and insight into current exhibitions.”

The BVCCC will screen Satellite Boy during NAIDOC Week, Andy Vening will blend hypnosis, comedy and audience interaction in his Hypnotise Me! performance and Australia's favourite children's television program, Play School, will engage and entertain children through play, music, art and the imagination.

The hard copy programs are available from all shire libraries, SECCA and BVCCC.

The activities and events can also be found on the Bega Valley Shire Library website, SECCA website and BVCCC website.
