Bega Valley Shire Library today launched a fun art competition to promote literacy during Library and Information Week (28 July-3 August).

Council’s Acting Library Services Coordinator, Linda Albertson said the bookmark design competition is a great way to help promote literacy and bring joy to people through art.

“There are three categories open to all ages and the winners will receive a $30 gift voucher and have their artwork printed on a library bookmark that will be available to the public at all of our libraries,” said Ms Albertson.

“Entering our competition is easy. Pop into any one of our libraries and grab a blank bookmark.

“Draw or paint your design on the blank bookmark, fill out the information on the back and drop your finished artwork into any library.

“There will be one winner per category and the competition closes on Monday 4 August.

“Winners will be announced on Monday 11 August by phone or email.”

The three categories of bookmark designs are:

  • Wackiest – think bizarre shapes and quirky perspectives.
  • Locally inspired – how does our local geography, landmarks, people or culture inspire you?
  • Book or character-inspired – use your favourite book character or plot to spark your imagination.

Library and Information Week is a yearly event run by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the important role libraries play in creating equal access and dismantling barriers to information and literacy resources and knowledge in the community.
