Bega Valley Shire Council will start sewer jetting works in parts of Tura Beach on Wednesday 13 August to maintain a healthy system and local environment.

Affected residents have been notified of exact dates and times. Council recommends checking the notice for details of the scheduled works.

Sewer jetting uses high-pressure water to clear the sewer mains of roots, debris and other build-up.

It’s an important part of keeping the sewer system flowing, reducing the risk of blockages and protecting the local environment from spills.

These works also give Council the opportunity to identify and address common sewer issues such as nappies, wet wipes and oils that don’t belong in the system but sometimes get flushed.

Please keep in mind that flushing these items doesn’t make them disappear and can cause blockages.

On rare occasions, jetting can cause ‘blowback’, where water is pushed back through household plumbing.

To prepare, residents are encouraged to:

keep toilet lids closed with a heavy object on top during works
locate and check your overflow relief gully trap to make sure it’s clear of obstructions like pot plants, soil or paving.

Gully traps are small, round drains in your yard, usually covered with a plastic grille. They’re designed so that if there’s a problem in the sewer, overflow happens outside rather than inside the home.

These works are about prevention, keeping the network clear, avoiding costly blockages and helping protect our waterways.
