5 August 2025
Bega Valley Shire Council advises flood restoration works will be carried out on Old Wallagoot Road, between Sapphire Coast Drive and Tathra Road, from Thursday 7 August to Thursday 6 November, weather permitting.
The works, originally scheduled to begin in April, were delayed after heavy rain caused flooding at the site.
Local contractors will be installing new drainage culverts to enhance the road's durability and will rebuild the road surface damaged by recent flood events.
This road has been closed since the flood event and the road will remain closed until works are complete.
The road closure includes a length of approximately 1.3 kilometres just North of Penuca Road to 730 metres south of Tathra Road in Kalaru.
Road users are advised to continue to detour via Sapphire Coast Drive and Tathra Road.
Council thanks the community for their patience while these important works are undertaken.
Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
