Council shines a light on road safety with SARAH stickers

Bega Valley Shire Council has teamed up with Transport for NSW and Cleanaway to promote safer driving on local roads, proudly supporting the national SARAH (Safer Australian Roads and Highways) Group campaign.

As part of the initiative, highly visible reflective SARAH stickers are being installed on Cleanaway waste and recycling trucks across the region.

The bright orange stickers carry the campaign’s powerful message: Drive So Others Survive, a simple reminder that safe driving decisions save lives.

Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said the stickers were a strong visual cue that would be seen by thousands of drivers every week.

“These striking orange decals highlight an important truth, that every one of us has a role to play in road safety.

“So far this year, too many lives have been cut short and too many families left grieving because of incidents on our roads. Any measure that can help change these outcomes is one we wholeheartedly support.

“By partnering with Transport and Cleanaway, we’re helping this life-saving message reach drivers right across the Bega Valley,” Mayor Fitzpatrick said.

Cleanaway trucks travel across the shire, from residential cul-de-sacs to busy rural roads, making them the perfect vehicles to spread the campaign’s message.

Cleanaway Regional Manager David Moon said the initiative was especially relevant given the safety challenges his team faces on the road each day.

“Our drivers are on the road every day, often working in situations where they’re vulnerable to passing traffic,” he said.

“These stickers remind motorists to slow down and take care, not just for our crews but for all roadside workers and emergency responders.

The SARAH Group was founded after the tragic loss of Sarah Frazer and tow truck driver, Geoff Clark on the Hume Highway in 2012. Since then, the campaign has become a leading voice for stronger road safety awareness across Australia.

Council is urging all drivers to stay alert, slow down near roadside workers and move over whenever it’s safe to do so. Small actions can make the biggest difference.
