Earlier this week we celebrated Council’s Sealed Roads Team Leader, Greg Cusack’s 40 years of service in the Bega Valley.
Council’s CEO, Anthony McMahon said Greg was presented with his service award in recognition of an impressive effort serving his community.
“We had a great turnout of staff wanting to congratulate and recognise Greg’s great contribution to the shire, demonstrating just how much he is respected as a leader within our workforce,” Mr McMahon said.
“Greg’s first job was as a labourer for the Bega town team in 1985 when cutting the grass was all completed by push mower. Four years later he become a plant operator working on a backhoe with the water team fixing watermain and line breaks.
“As Sealed Roads Team Leader, Greg supports his team and contractors to deliver maintenance and upgrade works across the shire’s 708km unsealed road network.
“Greg shared that some of the biggest changes he has experienced over the years relate to improvements in work health and safety and changes in technology in the equipment used to look after our roads.
“A major achievement for Greg was the building the rock wall at Fishpen in Merimbula. He worked the backhoe then and when he drives over that way, he can look at those rock walls and know he was part of the team that built them.
“Other jobs Greg enjoyed working on were Mount Darragh Road, converting Sapphire Coast Drive to a sealed road, the boat ramp at Kianinny and the rock walls at Bermagui and Eden.
“Greg thought he would be at Council for 10 years and then move on however his love of operating machinery and working with great people has seen him tick over the 40 year mark.
“We thank Greg for everything he has done for his community.”
